Question

My flight instructor certificate expires in April 2019. What is the earliest that I can complete my renewal course and retain my April expiration month?
Answer
The earliest you can complete a renewal course is Jan. 1, 2019. The renewal window for a CFI (retaining expiration month) includes the expiration month and the preceding three months (see FAA Order 8900.1, Vol. 5, Chap. 2, Sect. 11, 5-504 (F)(2)).
