Raven's realm
Light sport aircraft have become a common sight in a multitude of designs and configurations on the ramps of general aviation airports—and sometimes, off those airports, joining production models built for backcountry flying. One such interloper is the Rans S–20LS Raven, a two-seat taildragger that originated as a kitplane but has earned approval as a factory-constructed model. The Raven's Rans heritage makes itself evident visually and in its systems, incorporating the wings and tail from the Rans S–7S Courier, and the engine and seats of the S–6 Coyote II.

Question

October is here, and the days are getting noticeably shorter. What is the FAA's official definition of night?
Answer
According to 14 CFR 1.1, night is "the time between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight, as published in the Air Almanac, converted to local time." The Air Almanac can be difficult to decipher; you might try this website for an easier alternative.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
