Road Trip: Come to Carbondale

Fall flying fun in Southern Illinois

Road Trip

With summer in the rearview mirror and cool flying days ahead, fall is the perfect time to join thousands of your fellow pilots at AOPA’s Fly-In in Carbondale, Illinois, at Southern Illinois Airport (MDH).

We kick off the weekend on Friday, October 5. Arrive early and choose from among several in-depth workshops on topics ranging from owner-performed maintenance to mastering IFR basics to taking your VFR skills to the next level (registration and tuition fee required). Or, land at Scott AFB/MidAmerica Airport (BLV) in Belleview, Illinois, for an exclusive tour of the home of the 37th Air Mobility Wing. On Saturday, October 6, enjoy a pancake breakfast, the aircraft static display, and a full schedule of free seminars, topped off by a Pilot Town Hall and ice cream social with AOPA President Mark Baker. After the fly-in concludes, launch for Indianapolis Executive Airport (TYQ), where First Wing Aviation will shuttle you to the AOPA Brickyard Bash at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Extend your stay and catch the action on Sunday, October 7, at the Red Bull Air Race (tickets may be purchased online).
