Unwavering Warhawk
Every year when airshow season launches, history takes a bow with beautifully restored period aircraft entertaining spectators along with the current crop of aeronautical creations and the prototypes of flying's future. A popular, patriotic paean to the past is the Curtiss P–40 Warhawk, legendary for its World War II service against more agile adversaries and its longevity as more advanced fighters entered the fray. P–40s are famously associated with the First American Volunteer Group pilots known as the Flying Tigers.
Final Exam
Question

I started flying under BasicMed two years ago. What are the two- and four-year requirements?
Answer
Under 14 CFR 61.23(c)(3), BasicMed requires completion of a medical education course within the past 24 calendar months, and a comprehensive medical exam within the past 48 months (to the day, not the calendar month). Many pilots who got on board at the beginning in April and May 2017 will soon need to refresh their medical course requirement.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
