Plane Spotter
AOPA
Uncommon Commander
Many airplanes from sleek low-wing single-engine models to 300-knot high-wing twin turboprops have been called Commanders, but the rarest of the bunch may be the easiest to miss on the ramp. Somewhere out there, some of the 212 North American Rockwell AC–100-180 Lark Commanders built from 1968 to 1971 still fly. It's not hard to mistake the high-wing, 180-horsepower single with strut-based wings for a certain better-known brand, but on closer inspection a plane spotter finds telltale differences. Solidity and visibility are among the airplane's virtues. Speed, owners concede, isn't.
Final Exam
Question

As a certificated flight instructor, what types of flight training can I give if I do not have a current medical or fly under BasicMed?
Answer
You can give any type of training authorized by your instructor certificate that does not require you to serve as pilot in command or a required crewmember. For example, you can give aircraft checkouts, flight reviews if the pilot is still current, and commercial pilot training. You cannot fly with student pilots or give instrument training, complex airplane training for someone seeking an endorsement, or flight reviews if the pilot is not current. You can give sport pilot instruction on the basis of your driver's license if your FAA medical was not revoked, denied, withheld, or suspended.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
