Plane Spotter
AOPA
Torrid seller from Torrance
An urban skyscape or a landing pad behind a suburban home are equally likely backdrops for spotting a Robinson R44 helicopter, the four-place member of the piston-powered line manufactured in Torrance, California. Robinson rolled out its first machine in 1979—its two-place R22 model now widely used in primary training. Variants of its Lycoming-engine-powered, two-bladed big brother fill niches from military missions and law enforcement to aerial news coverage and private ownership. Of the 316 helicopters Robinson manufactured in 2018, 209 were R44s.

Question

Do insurance companies really cover the cost for owners to move their aircraft out of the storm's forecast path?
Answer
Yes. Moving your aircraft out of harm's way is a good thing for multiple reasons. If it were damaged, the chances are the repair costs would far exceed the cost to move it, and insurance companies understand that. Aircraft owners should check their policies for the details.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training?
