Cessna 150, 152

Teaching the world to fly

The Cessna 150—slow, small, but sturdy—became the most popular trainer in the general aviation fleet during a time of rapid growth in GA. Production began in 1959, followed in 1978 by the Cessna 152. The 150 and 152 were the backbone of the hugely successful Cessna Pilot Center network. For thousands of pilots in the 1960s and 1970s, these were the airplanes that taught them to fly.

Scholarships awarded

AOPA gives away more than $1 million

Thanks to the generosity of donors, more than 120 exceptional high school students, teachers, student pilots, and pilots pursuing advanced training will receive 2019 AOPA scholarships. In June, the AOPA Foundation announced the selection of 80 high school students and 20 teachers for the 2019 You Can Fly High School Flight Training Scholarships, made possible by a $1 million grant from the Ray Foundation; donors to the AOPA Foundation funded an additional 16 primary training and eight advanced training scholarships. These scholarship awards are a major benefit of AOPA membership, helping members reach their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. This is the largest scholarship awards given to date at more than $1 million.

Flight Training Experience Survey now open

If you have taken flight training in the past 12 months, share your thoughts in AOPA’s annual Flight Training Experience Survey. This customer satisfaction review is essential to You Can Fly efforts to improve the flight training experience nationwide—and your opinion matters. Based on feedback in the survey, You Can Fly identifies the top flight schools and instructors in the nation and recognizes them for their best-practices efforts. The data gathered is also used to monitor trends in the industry. From the data accumulated, You Can Fly supplies report cards to flight schools and instructors to allow them to see where they excel and where they may need to improve. You Can Fly will recognize schools and instructors in six regions this year: Northwest Mountains, Western Pacific, Great Lakes, Central Southwest, Eastern, and Southern. These regions correspond to the AOPA regional managers in those areas. The You Can Fly team has made changes to the survey, making it quicker and easier to complete. And you can win one of 11 prizes ranging in value from $100 to $360 for your participation. The survey is open June 1 through July 31, 2019.
