Plane Spotter
AOPA
Rare bird from Beechcraft
Most plane spotters can easily identify the make and model when a Beechcraft piston twin or turboprop taxis onto the ramp. But now and then a six-seat specimen from an earlier era that bears the line's likeness shows up, causing some to wonder how this straight-tailed interloper with a strikingly wide cabin and oversize engine cowlings fits in. Meet the Beechcraft Model 50, also known as the Twin Bonanza that first flew in 1949, powered early on by two geared Lycoming engines of 260 horsepower, and later, up to 340 hp.

Question

I currently fly a Stinson 108 Voyager that was originally certified prior to 1950. The aircraft has navigation lights but does not have an anticollision light system. May I fly it at night?
Answer
No. Although your aircraft was certified without an anticollision light system, an approved aviation red or aviation white anticollision light system is required for an aircraft to be legal to fly at night (see 14 CFR 91.205(c)).
