Plane Spotter
AOPA
Brazilian Phenom
Plane spotters at airports that serve business jets have ever-increasing chances of spotting a 10-seat Brazilian twinjet that has taken a leading position in its class just a decade after its debut. Low-wing, T-tail Phenom 300s with Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535E engines of 3,360 pounds thrust mounted high on their rear fuselages have been coming off Embraer's production line in Florida at the rate of 60 per year. The airplane also set a speed record, flying 964 nautical miles from Melbourne, Florida, to Boston in two hours, 38 minutes.
Final Exam
Question

What impact did the government shutdown have on the FAA's issuance of pilot certificates?
Answer
The impact of the shutdown was fairly substantial. The FAA's Airman Certification branch did not process airman applications or issue pilot certificates during those five weeks. As of this week, however, operations have resumed, and applications received from the last week of November 2018 are being processed.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training?
