Plane Spotter
AOPA
Minnesota-made masterpiece
This four-place, 300-horsepower single-engine airplane born in the 1960s with a steel-tube fuselage, fabric-covered wooden wings, and retractable gear is a rather rare bird. Yet there are still quite a few speedy, smart-handling, made-in-Minnesota Bellanca Vikings and Super Vikings out there—almost 800 FAA-registered airplanes when AOPA sang its praises as a budget buy in 2016, more than a decade after production ended. Plane spotting hint: An eye-catchingly outsized vertical fin is a vivid Viking visual aid.
Final Exam
Question

I had just arrived at my buddy's Fourth of July party, opened my first beer, and taken a sip, when my buddy said, "Let's go fly." I did. I figured there was no way I was under the influence with that tiny amount. Was that the right call?
Answer
No. Even if one sip of beer would not put you under the influence, the regulation is clear—no flying within eight hours after consuming any alcoholic beverage, regardless of the amount consumed.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center.
