It’s hard to believe, but the successful effort to reform the third class medical process, today known as BasicMed, turned two years old on May 1. A Swiss company known for integrating drones in entertainment has written software that can achieve what some thought impossible: Allow a four-rotor drone to fly through an in-flight motor failure. But you can’t have it, yet.

Speak up or shut up

You’re ready for takeoff, holding short of the runway, when you notice the airplane on final, a Beech Sierra, has its landing gear retracted. Speak up or shut up?

  • Of course I’d speak up. I would call to the aircraft and the tower. Loudly!! —Ken Moore
  • I would and I have made that call over the frequency. Saves the people from a gear-up landing AND keeps the runway open so you can still get outta there. —James Foster
