When yachts flew
The airplane was ugly and difficult to handle, but had an "excellent view" from the cockpit, according to an unsentimental description the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre lavishes on the Loening Air Yacht , a single-engine amphibious airplane manufactured in the United States in the 1920s. There were several Air Yacht models. In 1935 Thor Solberg flew a model C2–C from the U.S. to Norway in 29 days. It is displayed at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology in Oslo. Solberg's descendants still own New Jersey's Solberg Airport, which he founded. (Photo courtesy of the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology.)
Final Exam
Question

I have a friend who wants to fly his instrument cross-country training flight in two segments—flying two approaches at two different airports on a 250-nautical-mile flight, then waiting for two days and flying back with the third approach at a third airport. Would that be legal?
Answer
Yes. The regulation does not require this dual training flight to be flown in one day; splitting it up into different days would be fine as long as all the requirements are satisfied.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
