Question of the Week
Question

A friend who owns a fixed-gear Cessna 182 has offered to let me fly it for the cost of fuel. It has flaps and a constant-speed propeller. Do I need a complex endorsement to fly this airplane as pilot in command?
Answer
No. The definition of "complex airplane" in 14 CFR 61.1 requires flaps, controllable-pitch propeller, and retractable landing gear (for non-seaplanes). However, having some instruction on using a constant-speed propeller would be advisable. Also, flying a Cessna 182 or any airplane with an engine of more than 200 horsepower requires a one-time high-performance airplane logbook endorsement.
