Amped-up aeronautics
There's an electric feeling in the air about battery-powered aviation propulsion, and the race is on to make fossil-fuel-burning aircraft obsolete. Among the first out of the gate is the Ampaire 337, which plane spotters will recognize as a centerline-thrust, twin-engine Cessna 337 Skymaster—with its rear engine replaced by an electric motor. Los Angeles-based Ampaire expects its aircraft's practicality to increase as batteries gain efficiency, freeing the Ampaire 337 of its fumarolic front engine, too. (Photo courtesy of Ampaire.)

Question

If I land at a towered airport in Class D airspace, and air traffic control does not issue after-landing instructions, what is the proper procedure?
Answer
Exit the runway onto the nearest convenient taxiway, not a crossing runway, and taxi clear of the hold short line. If you still have not received instructions from the tower, call ground control.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
