Plane Spotter
AOPA
Where there's smoke
A low-wing tandem-seat turboprop from Brazil that dazzles audiences in the hands of a well-known demonstration team and has become a trainer of choice for several air forces also finds favor with some civilian owners. Plane spotters will recognize the Embraer Tucano and its offspring, the more powerful Super Tucano, by the big bubble canopy and a rear seat set considerably higher than the front pilot position. Perhaps the airplane's most famous calling card is its service with the Brazilian Air Force's Esquadrão de Demonstração Aérea, also known as the Smoke Squadron. (Photo courtesy of Embraer.)

Question

I have a basic ground instructor certificate but no flight instructor certificate. Am I authorized to endorse a pilot to take the instrument rating knowledge test?
Answer
No. According to 14 CFR 61.215(a), a basic ground instructor is authorized to provide an endorsement only for a sport, recreational, or private pilot knowledge test.
