Plane Spotter
AOPA
A-Mong the racers
Each year in late summer, plane spotters who feel the need for speed turn their eyes to one of aviation's most vaunted venues of velocity: the Nevada desert outside Reno. In 2019, the tradition continues from Sept. 11 to 15 with competitors flying in six classes of aircraft for the Stihl National Championship Air Races. Frequently among biplane class entrants is one that has notched numerous No. 1 finishes: the compact Mong Sport, whose past entries with names like Mongster and Mong-Goose have honored designer Ralph Mong's original 1953 creation. Final Exam
Question

I have an airplane single-engine rating and an instrument rating on my flight instructor certificate, but my certificate expired. If I earn a multiengine rating, will the other ratings be reinstated as well?
Answer
Yes. According to 14 CFR 61.199(a)(2), a new rating can be added to reinstate a flight instructor certificate, and that will also reinstate the ratings previously held.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
