You Can Fly: Don't touch that dial

Flying Club Radio is on

Steve Bateman has a voice for radio—he’s charming, erudite, and has a lovely British accent (because he’s from Great Britain).

Combine it with that English wit and his American sidekick Drew Myers and you have Flying Club Radio, a fun and interesting way to learn more about starting, running, and enjoying a flying club. Bateman is the director of AOPA’s You Can Fly Flying Clubs initiative and Myers manages the program. Both are active pilots who are members themselves of local flying clubs. They share their personal experiences and banter back and forth about best practices in running a successful club. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the closures in Maryland (AOPA headquarters), the pair record the show from their basements (here’s hoping they get released soon). And although they haven’t been flying lately, their stories and anecdotal information will help anyone thinking of starting a club or keeping theirs running. From topics such as running an engaging meeting to the increasing costs of insurance, Bateman and Myers offer tips and advice in a fun yet informative way. Tune in every Friday for a little British humor, American realism—and, oh, yeah, flying club information.
