Final Exam
Question

In what airspace is ADS-B Out not required?
Answer
In the contiguous United States, ADS-B Out is not required for aircraft with electrical systems in Class G; above 10,000 feet msl in Class E if within 2,500 feet of the surface (normally in mountainous areas); under 10,000 feet msl in Class E except when overflying Class B or C airspace; in Class E below 3,000 feet msl when within 12 nautical miles of the coast along the Gulf of Mexico; in Class D; or under a shelf of Class B or C airspace (as long as it is outside of a Mode C veil). That leaves a significant amount of U.S. airspace where ADS-B Out (and a Mode C transponder) is not required.
