April abounds in scholarship opportunities

Two scholarships worth $3,000 each will be awarded to high-achieving individuals who are pursuing their next level of maintenance education. The Rob Louviaux/DeLaurentis Foundation scholarships are named after Rob Louviaux, who served as the lead mechanic on the 2019-2020 polar circumnavigation flight around the world on a1983 Gulfstream Twin Commander 900 dubbed Citizen of the World. Scholarship applicants must submit a typed statement that includes the aviation/mechanic career goals, current and future aviation educational plans, work experience, achievements related to aviation, details of initiative and leadership skills, and other interests and accomplishments The application should also include two typed letters of recommendation not from family members; official, unopened school transcripts reflecting a minimum GPA of 3.0; and contact information including current mailing address, school email address, and a telephone number. Applications must be mailed to Robert DeLaurentis no later than April 30. Scholarship winners will be notified by July 1. Questions should be directed to DeLaurentis by email.

The South County Airport Pilots Association will award two $4,000 scholarships to individuals who are actively pursuing their flight ratings and/or those who are enrolled in an academic flight training or aviation maintenance program at San Martin Airport or Reid-Hillview of Santa Clara County Airport in California. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or a legal U.S. resident, be at least 16 years of age, and submit a one-page essay or two-minute multimedia presentation along with a recommendation letter. Candidates must email their completed application no later than April 30. Winners will be notified on May 6 and awards will be presented at the Food Truck Fly-In on May 21.

The Texas Space Grant Consortium (TSGC) and the Aviation and Space Foundation of Texas in partnership with NASA are offering a $2,000 stipend to students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in science, technology, engineering, or math fields that will lead to a career in a STEM-related field. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and be registered for at least a half-time course load at a TSGC member institution in good standing as a sophomore at a two-year institution; a sophomore, junior, or senior at a four-year institution; or a first- or second-year student at medical school. Applicants must complete an online application form and submit a letter of recommendation and university transcripts by May 2.

Mike Rowe Works Foundation is awarding a total of $1 million to individuals who are pursuing a hands-on career. Such careers could include aircraft maintainers, aircraft cleaners, or FBO line technicians. Applicants must be enrolled in an approved program, sign a pledge, make a video, have two references, verify school costs, provide a high school or college transcript, submit a recent 1040 tax form, and apply by April 14.
