FAA invests in the future of aviation

Demand for aviation professionals is at an all-time high and hiring trends are only expected to grow over the next 15 years. Recognizing this projected shortage, the FAA is investing in accredited higher-education institutions, high schools, flight schools, and state and local governments by awarding $10 million in grants to educate the next generation of aviation professionals.

“Our investment in the aviation workforce of the future must begin today,” said FAA Administrator Steve Dickson. “These grants help nurture interest in aviation at an early age to build a career during one of the most dynamic times in aviation history.”

Aviation Workforce Development grants are divided into two categories, aircraft pilot workforce and aviation maintenance technical workers. Grants totaling $5 million were awarded in each category.

Aircraft pilot workforce grants can be used to create and deliver curriculum designed to prepare students for careers as aircraft pilots, drone operators, or aerospace engineers. Those who receive the aviation maintenance technical workers grants can use funds to create and deliver curriculum, purchase equipment, establish scholarships, support outreach, and more.
