Experience the breathtaking views of wine country when you land at Halter Ranch, the only fly-in winery and vineyard. Nestled on the Central Coast of California in the quaint town of Paso Robles, the Halter Ranch estate spans more than 2,700 acres with 180 acres of sustainably produced wine grapes, 15 acres of organic walnuts, and 10 acres of organic olive trees. Located 20 minutes from the estate is the Paso Robles downtown park square, surrounded by fine dining and casual gourmet restaurants, charming wine bars, art galleries, and craft breweries.
Only about 25 miles to the West, you’ll find Highway 1, which offers spectacular views of the Pacific coastline as well as access to some of the state’s more sought-after attractions, such as Hearst Castle and the Bixby Creek Bridge in Big Sur.
Halter Ranch wines are sustainably produced and 100% estate-grown, focused in both Rhône and Bordeaux varieties. With only about 18% of the property dedicated to farming and structures, the rest preserves the natural landscape, predominantly oak woodland, with wildlife corridors running throughout- a perfect backdrop for your next flying adventure. As you fly in, take in the sight of our Ancestor tree, the world’s largest Coast Live Oak on record, estimated to be more than 600 years old. Our flagship Bordeaux-style red blend is a must-try and is named after this incredible landmark. Upon landing, visit our Tasting Room with sweeping views of the property and enjoy tastings, tour the property in a classic Landrover Defender, order from our seasonal farm-to-table lunch menu, or stay in one of our luxury accommodations.
The airstrip on the Halter Ranch property is rich in history. Initially built by the MacGillivray family in 1967, the ranch hosted various fun flying events, including short landing contests, flower sack bombings, and air shows. In 1970, the former president and California governor, Ronald Reagan, drew in thousands of locals when he visited the ranch in his Aero Commander and announced his gubernatorial reelection campaign. Fast forward to the year 2000, and our current owner, Hansjörg Wyss, purchased the property from the MacGillivrays and renamed it Halter Ranch after his mother, Alice Halter, who had a passion for land conservation.
Across from our Tasting Room and winery, our one-of-a-kind Swiss replica covered bridge connects the past to the present. Take a step back in time when you walk across to the original farmstead, a 19th century Victorian home complete with original stained glass windows. Also, on this side of the bridge, you’ll find our restored silos used by the property’s original owners to harvest barley. End the day with a stroll through Le Jardin Du Chef, our certified organic culinary garden. We harvest seasonal fruits, vegetables, and flowers all year round, providing 80% of the produce for the culinary menu in the Tasting Room.
This year, 2022, the Halter Ranch Airport is officially up and running. We have registered with the FAA as airport number 89CA, and Wine Club Members are invited to fly in and explore all the property offers. You, too, can be a part of history when you soar into Halter Ranch. We hope to welcome you soon.
