To aviation enthusiasts, airports are more than just infrastructure. They’re intersections of movement, memories, and excitement. Through the eyes of SkyBirdSupply founder Joel Burgess, airports are also a beautiful intertwining of art and design.
Inspired by viewing dozens of airports across the United States while flying with his friend in a single-engine Mooney, Burgess set out to create a tasteful design of the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), capturing every detail down to the exact scale and size of each feature by utilizing FAA records and diagrams as well as satellite imaging.
Since SkyBirdSupply’s inception on Etsy in January 2024, the company has launched its own website and crafted an artistic design for more than 500 airports. These designs now decorate the walls of aviators’ homes, offices, and hangars around the world.
SkyBirdSupply also offers custom designs to commemorate milestones in an aviator’s flying career, such as their first solo flight.
Popular, predesigned maps, ranging from New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Southern California’s Edwards Air Force Base (EDW) start at $29. Custom design maps start at $39. Additionally, SkyBirdSupply offers several options of different sizes, colors, and frames for the design you would like.
Whether you’re a seasoned pilot, an aspiring aviator, or someone who simply enjoys the beauty of flight, SkyBirdSupply offers a way to keep a piece of aviation close to you wherever you are.
