SiriusXM weather soon available in AFS displays

SiriusXM and Advanced Flight Systems, a Dynon company, recently announced an agreement to use a new satellite weather receiver to bring SiriusXM Aviation weather and information into Advanced Flight Systems’ AF-5000/6000 series avionics.

The 10.4-inch AF-6600 display shown here in a Van's RV –10 panel will soon support integration of SiriusXM Aviation weather (not pictured). Photo courtesy of Advanced Flight Systems.

The partnership will integrate SiriusXM Aviation to avionics that do not currently support the service, beginning with Advanced Flight Systems’ AF-5000/6000.

With the installation of the receiver and an XMWX weather plan, pilots with compatible avionics will be able to display weather data on aircraft displays without the limitations of ADS-B weather data broadcast by ground stations. The satellite-based service has no line-of-sight restriction, no altitude limitations, and coast-to-coast coverage with no gaps.

The receiver and weather plans are expected to launch with the AF-5000/6000 series in the coming months. Additional avionics integrations are planned for the “near future,” according to the press release.

A prototype with a receiver displaying SiriusXM Aviation weather on Advanced Flight Systems AF-6600 EFIS avionics is on display at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin at the Advanced Flight Systems booth (No. 4034) in Hangar D and SiriusXM Aviation’s booth (No. 318).

The AF-6600 display retails for $4,790 and is also sold with complete panel packages.
