MT Propeller gains European STCs

MT Propeller received supplemental type certificates from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency for installation of its propellers on a range of aircraft including piston single, piston twin, and turbine models.

EASA approved installation of the German company’s electrically controlled, constant-speed, three-blade MTV-18-B/183-59 propeller on the Beechcraft B23 and C23 Musketeer and Sundowner. The new prop is designed to provide more ground clearance, shorter takeoff distance, and shorter ground roll.

MT also received an STC revision for its MTV-9-B/198-52 three-blade propeller for use on Piper PA–28-235 and PA–28-236 Pathfinder and Dakota aircraft. The company said the propeller reduces noise, boosts climb performance by 5 percent, increases cruise speed by 2 to 3 knots, and minimizes vibration.

Cessna 404 and 406 light twins can now use MT’s four-blade MTV-16-1-E-C-F/CF225-37a propeller under an EASA STC. The propellers weigh about four pounds less than the original props and enhance cruise performance by 3 to 4 knots. Takeoff distance improves by 5 percent while climb performance increases by 3 percent.

MT said demand for more propeller options for the Air Tractor AT-402 and AT-502 models compelled MT and its sister company, Avia Propeller, to design the Avia V-508H/108A model, which has a steel hub and aluminum blades that can be removed in the field without disassembling the hub. As a result, blade replacements due to foreign object damage are easier. The company said there are more than 3,000 of these specialized agricultural aviation propellers in service around the world.
