Tecnam targets private owners with P2006T NG

Fuel efficiency, design reshape what it means to own a twin

Tecnam's next-generation twin is set to enter the U.S. market, expanding options for owner-operators considering a light twin.

Tecnam, the Italy-based manufacturer, announced the launch of the P2006T NG in the United States and Canada. FAA certification is expected in late 2026. The aircraft is already flying overseas, operated by training organizations and private owners.

The P2006T has been in service for 15 years, with hundreds flying worldwide. During that time, Tecnam gathered feedback from pilots and operators and used it to evolve the design, the company said in a news release. The NG reflects those improvements.

The new P2006T NG is billed as the world's most fuel-efficient twin-engine aircraft. According to Tecnam each engine consumes as little as 3.7 gallons per hour. For a twin, that number is almost unheard of and makes multiengine flying more accessible.

The aircraft's increased maximum takeoff weight also adds to that advantage. Owners get greater payload flexibility, making the aircraft suitable for both training and travel.

Garmin's G1000 NXi anchors the panel, featuring the GFC 700 digital autopilot and a GCU 477 FMS keyboard—creating a seamless transition for pilots moving up from Garmin-equipped singles or building time toward professional careers.

Tecnam also focused on how pilots move around in the airplane. A new pilot-side door improves access, external baggage loading is easier, and larger windows improve visibility. The Sport version adds Italian-styled luxury finishes for owners prioritizing comfort and style without sacrificing performance.

While flight schools remain a major market for the P2006T family, Tecnam is clearly targeting private owners. The company recently introduced U.S. leasing and financing programs, including partnerships with AOPA Finance.

For pilots who have always dreamed of owning a twin, the NG delivers redundancy, modern avionics, and efficiency that rivals many singles. FAA certification is anticipated in late 2026 and delivery planned for 2027.
