Van's updates RV–12 for MOSAIC
IFR version flying at AirVenture
Van’s Aircraft is displaying its first MOSAIC-compliant RV–12 made for instrument flight rules at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin.
The Oregon-based company has made the two-seat aircraft legal to fly in instrument conditions under FAA regulations updated in 2025 by the Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification, with a heated pitot tube, a modified alternator, and other changes.
The RV–15, Van’s first high-wing airplane, is expected to be at AirVenture, too, with a modified horizontal tail. The RV–15 is a rugged design that’s currently being sold in kit form to individual builders. Many flight schools and customers have expressed interest in getting Van’s to start factory production of the RV–15 design and sell it as a complete airplane.
“Just about any airplane in our catalog qualifies as a light sport airplane under the MOSAIC,” Cook said. “But the RV–12 is the only one we’re currently manufacturing. We haven’t made any commitments to factory production beyond the RV–12.”
