As part of AOPA’s potential bylaw changes announced on April 10, the organization has developed a more robust process for selecting new trustees.
“AOPA's nominating committee reviewed a total of 23 candidates recommended by members, staff, and current trustees,” said Luke Wippler, AOPA Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “Candidates were evaluated through a skills matrix screening and interviews, with final selections based on their ability to bring new skills and professional experience that strengthens the Board’s governance and ability to execute on our strategic priorities, including strengthening engagement with AOPA members.”
This process reflects the same standards being formalized in AOPA's bylaw changes under consideration, demonstrating the association's commitment to stronger governance now and for the future.
The following nine trustees are standing for re-election: Luke Wippler (Chairman), Larry Buhl, Matt Desch, Amanda Farnsworth, Will Hudson (Vice Chairman), Dale Klapmeier, Charlie Lynch, Bill Roberts, and Austin Stephens. Joining them on the ballot for the first time are Peter Burwell and Ryan Samples.
“The board's enhanced nominee review process and proposed bylaw changes are the first step in changing how we operate,” said Wippler. “This is just the beginning. We'll continue to evaluate what we need at the board level and beyond, and we're committed to keeping members and the broader GA community in that conversation. AOPA is strongest when we're working together.”
