Airport diagrams may get a facelift
AOPA has proposed standardizing the labeling for parking features on airport diagrams. The proposal was made at the FAA’s Aeronautical Chart Meeting, a twice-yearly forum to collaborate on aeronautical charting. The proposal received support from meeting participants but terms and definitions will not become official until formally documented by the FAA. READ MORE ›
Flight school hosts camp for cancer survivors
Summit Aviation in Bozeman, Montana, concluded its fifth year hosting an aviation camp for young people who have survived a cancer diagnosis. The flight school worked with Eagle Mount, an organization dedicated to hosting adventures for people with disabilities and young people with cancer, according to the Bozeman Independent Record. The weeklong Big Sky Kids Fly camp included 10 hours of flight time and tours of aviation facilities. Summit Aviation President Ben Walton said most campers can take off and land unassisted by the end of the week.
Redbird names speakers for annual Migration
Redbird Flight Simulations will hold its annual Migration industry event October 9 through 11 in Frederick, Maryland. The company said guest speakers will include AOPA Editor in Chief Thomas B. Haines and David Pasahow, founder of executive search and leadership firm Blue Line Advisors. Migration will feature presentations from a range of industry leaders and small group break-out sessions focused on providing solutions to real-world problems facing flight schools and universities. CPB streamlining GA cross-border operations
General aviation aircraft operators who have been authorized to skip a usually mandatory landing at designated customs service airports when they return to the states across the U.S.-Mexico border should benefit from recent system changes. Under updated procedures, holders of an overflight exemption will be able to operate all their authorized aircraft with any of their authorized crewmembers on overflight-exemption based arrivals. Steer them to the AOPA website, where they’ll find all the resources they need to determine if they’re eligible for BasicMed. They can download the FAA Medical Exam Checklist and complete the self-assessment portion of the form, and take the online course at the same page.
