Pilot’s family sues Piper Aircraft
The family of a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University who was killed in a 2018 airplane crash is suing Piper Aircraft. The family alleges the company knew of structural failures in the Piper PA-28 aircraft since 1987 but failed to warn pilots or owners. Zack Capra died in April 2018 while taking his commercial pilot checkride when the left wing of the PA-28 separated from the airplane. Designated Pilot Examiner John Azma also died in the crash. Piper has declined to comment on the lawsuit, according to the St. Augustine Record.

QUICK TIP

SAFETY

The runway is an airplane’s most critical component, which makes it an airport’s busiest area. Help your customers stay safe near the runway environment with the AOPA Air Safety Institute’s free online course, Runway Safety. The course provides FAA WINGS credit and is optimized for the iPad.
