New protocols for pilots with insulin-treated diabetes
Those with diabetes who have always dreamed of becoming airline pilots may now get their chance, thanks to new protocols that the FAA released on November 7. Under FAR 67.401, the federal air surgeon has discretion to allow pilots with insulin-treated diabetes mellitus to obtain a first or second class medical certificate so long as they do not pose a safety risk. Examiner system reform panel goes to work
Now that the FAA has put short-term measures in place to cut down delays in scheduling airman practical tests, a working group has turned its attention to modernizing the designated pilot examiner system. The group will propose new methods of selection, training, and deployment of examiners. READ MORE ›
Nominate a deserving aviator
The General Aviation Awards Committee is accepting nominations for the 2020 class of national honorees. The program recognizes aviation professionals at the local, regional, and national levels for their contributions to aviation, education, and flight safety. Nominations can be made for flight instructor of the year, maintenance or avionics technician of the year, and FAASTeam representative of the year. National winners will be recognized at EAA AirVenture in July 2020. Submit nominations by November 30, and find more information at the website.
Students awarded over $350,000 in aviation scholarships
ProJet Aviation leader Shye Gilad said a cadre of college friends pooled $400 to help him pursue flight training when he was working in a restaurant and trying to make ends meet. On November 1, Gilad paid it forward as he helped award $354,441 during the fourteenth annual Aviation Education and Career Expo in Leesburg, Virginia. READ MORE ›
