Top schools, instructors earn 2019 Flight Experience Awards
A New England flight school known for nurturing students in a professional environment and a Tar Heel flight instructor recognized for his patience and motivation were honored as the top winners of AOPA’s 2019 Flight Training Experience Awards. NAFI honors John and Martha King
The National Association of Flight Instructors honored John and Martha King of King Schools Inc. with its Jack J. Eggspuehler Service Award, named for the founder of the association. The award is given to deserving members, industry leaders, or organizations that have performed great services for NAFI in benefit of its members. NAFI Chairman Bob Meder said the Kings' work "has revolutionized flight training. Just as important has been the Kings’ commitment to improving aviation safety."
Mexico welcomes pilots flying under BasicMed
Pilots flying under BasicMed will be able to travel to Mexico in their aircraft starting December 10 under a policy letter signed by Mexico’s Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics on October 11. Mexico joins the Bahamas as a BasicMed-friendly destination. More than 51,000 U.S. pilots are flying under BasicMed. READ MORE ›
Flight school apologizes for wheel that went through homeowner's roof
SummerSkyz, a helicopter flight training school in Lansing, Michigan, apologized to a homeowner after a ground handling wheel fell from one of its aircraft and became lodged in the roof. No one was injured. The flight school said a CFI who recently joined the company accidentally left the wheel in place before a flight, because he was not accustomed to doing ground handling, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Final ADS-B rebate claimed
When they're gone, they're gone: The FAA announced October 11 that all 20,000 rebates offered to incentivize ADS-B Out equipage by general aviation aircraft owners has been claimed. ADS-B Out equipage will be required for flights after January 1, 2020, in the airspace defined by FAR 91.225, and the FAA has been adamant that the deadline won't change. READ MORE ›
