AD to mandate Cessna tail cone and stabilizer inspections
The FAA has adopted an airworthiness directive (AD) requiring the inspection of the tail cone and horizontal stabilizers of numerous Cessna 180, 182, and 185 single-engine airplane models for corrosion and cracking. The AD takes effect December 7 and applies to 6,586 airplanes. READ MORE ›
AOPA GO to be folded into main AOPA app
AOPA is making it even easier for pilots to plan their flights, check weather, get their news, and manage their membership by consolidating its AOPA GO app into the main AOPA app. The AOPA app will provide more flight planning functionality than AOPA GO, which will be retired at the end of 2020. OK. college buys 32 Piper Archers
Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology announced on October 29 that it is buying 32 Piper Archers from Piper Aircraft. Piper and Spartan College officials celebrated the announcement as well as the delivery of the 5,000th Piper Archer to Spartan's flight facility at Jones Riverside Airport in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Spartan also has locations in Los Angeles and Inland Empire, California, and Denver, Colorado.
S.C. university to launch collegiate aviation program
Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina, announced it will launch a four-year collegiate aviation program in the fall of 2021. The program will enable students to earn a bachelor's degree in aviation science and concentrate in a commercial, military, or missionary aviation track. The college will partner with Charleston Regional Accelerated Flight Training, where students will complete all flight time at either the Summerville or Charleston airports using the flight school's fleet of Diamond aircraft, according to The Gazette.

United Flight Systems, at David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport in Spring, Texas, north of Houston includes pricing and information on what to expect in training; as a member of Liberty University’s Flight Training Affiliate Program, there’s information about the college programs. It also adds AOPA’s “You Can Fly: Your Path to Become a Pilot” special edition of Flight Training. “It’s a very valuable resource,” said Bobby Doss, president and owner of the flight school. “It has been a great tool to share with potential students as they come in to learn more.” It’s not too late to request a countertop display or extra copies, all provided at no charge to your school.
