High school curriculum, airport access key to growing GA
Bringing more people into aviation by reminding them why you fly, inviting the public to visit airports, and engaging teens in aviation-related high school curriculum are three key ways to expand the general aviation community, AOPA President Mark Baker said March 9 during a livestreamed town hall. Coming this month: A new way to track flight training progress
Watch this space: On March 31 AOPA's You Can Fly program will launch the AOPA Flight Training Advantage (AFTA), a web portal and iPad-based training program designed to help make the process of flight training more effective for students, flight instructors, and flight schools. The program will include personalized and flexible lesson plans that automatically adapt to a customer’s skill level; easy-to-find study and lesson prep materials; lesson feedback from every flight; and much more. Additional information on the AOPA Flight Training Advantage will be available on the website when the program goes live.
Worldwide flight simulator sales strong
Worldwide flight training device sales began 2021 on a strong note with simulator companies signing agreements with or making deliveries to flight schools in Japan, Spain, France, and Germany. Tenn. flight school sold to new owners
Five years after launching Shelbyville Flight Center at Bomar Field-Shelbyville Municipal Airport (SYI), owners Joe and Linda Roberts have sold the business to Allen Howell and David Augustin of Azure Flight Support. The Roberts said they started the flight school with a "vision of providing high quality personalized flight training in the middle Tennessee area," according to the Shelbyville Times-Gazette. Azure Flight Support manages two fixed-base operations in Tennessee.
Fla. flight instructor to be honored in General Aviation Awards
Ronald Jay Timmermans of Orlando, Florida, was named the 2021 National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year in the latest round of the National General Aviation Awards. Timmermans and others will be honored at this year's EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. READ MORE ›
