Flight Training Experience Awards announces regional winners
The results of the 2021 annual Flight Training Experience Awards have been tabulated and 42 schools and 100 CFIs have earned a Distinguished Award; six schools and six instructors have been tapped as regional winners. The national winners of the 2021 survey will be announced at Redbird Migration in February. Among the flight schools, regional winners are In the Pattern, Denton, Texas (Central Southwest); Air Ventures Flying School, Pawtucket, Rhode Island (Eastern); Blue Skies, Chicago, Illinois (Great Lakes); Mountains Ridgeline Aviation, Bozeman, Montana (Northwest); Aviator Zone Academy, Miami, Florida (Southern), and Sierra Charlie Aviation, Scottsdale, Arizona (Western Pacific).

Diamond developing all-electric trainer
Diamond Aircraft announced its intent to compete for a slice of the electric flight training market with the eDA40. On October 12 Diamond said it will partner with Electric Power Systems to integrate a battery system into the eDA40. The system will be able to restore a depleted aircraft’s battery supply within 20 minutes. Certification is anticipated in 2023.

John and Martha King, Greg Brown inducted into CFI Hall of Fame
King Schools Inc. founders John and Martha King, who have coached thousands of pilots through passing their FAA knowledge exams with sage advice and folksy humor, and well-known instructor and aviation author Greg Brown, were humbled during a surprise Flight Instructor Hall of Fame induction ceremony October 13 at the National Business Aviation Association Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Las Vegas. The National Association of Flight Instructors administered the award in recognition of "significant contributions to aviation and flight instruction while reflecting credit upon themselves and their profession."

ATP Flight School opens Texas airline pilot training center
ATP Flight School unveiled a new, 25,000-square-foot airline pilot training center at the Arlington Municipal Airport in Arlington, Texas, on October 8. The new facility is the centerpiece of ATP’s network of 70 flight training schools around the country.

Mountain pass elevations added to Alaska charts
The elevations of about 50 mountain passes have been added to Alaska visual navigation charts as a working group led by AOPA moves forward on a project to enhance information critical to the safety of flight through mountainous regions. The elevations appear on Alaska sectional chart editions that took effect October 7.
