TRAINING TRENDS
Boeing 20-year pilot outlook indicates 20-percent decline
Boeing Co.'s Pilot and Technician Outlook 2021–2040 lowered predicted pilot hiring numbers by 20 percent since 2020—down to 612,000 from 763,000 forecast in 2020. However, the aerospace firm says long-term demand for pilots and aviation personnel "remains strong" despite an "uneven global recovery" from the coronavirus pandemic. Pre-pandemic forecasts in 2019 called for 804,000 flying jobs when the industry faced severe personnel shortages because of retirements and attrition. READ MORE ›

QUICK TIP
If your flight school weathered the pandemic, you likely had an emergency fund in place to help get you through the crisis. It's time to start rebuilding that reserve for 2022 and beyond. Three to six months of business expenses is recommended, and you can start by opening a business bank account and setting up automatic deposits to ensure a certain amount is put away each week or month. SAFETY
New ASI video: 'Avoiding Gear-Up Landings and Gear Collapses'
Gear-up landings and gear collapses happen to pilots regardless of experience levels or certificates held. They are often caused by distractions that lead to forgetting to lower the gear before landing or mistakenly selecting the gear up lever instead of the flaps up lever on the ground. A new video from the AOPA Air Safety Institute helps pilots avoid self-induced woes that lead to one of the costliest insurance claims. Watch the video.
