Pilot examiner reform advances
The FAA published responses to a dozen reforms designed to improve the availability of pilot practical tests. The 2021 recommendations were issued by a working group established through a 2018 agency reauthorization. The FAA said work is underway on certain recommendations, including improvement of the online FAA Designee Locator. READ MORE ›
Airlines hike pilot pay
Regional carriers Piedmont Airlines and Envoy Air announced agreements with the Air Line Pilots Association which include "industry-leading pilot pay rates." Envoy said the agreement means pilots' pay increase will be 6 percent higher for first officers and 10 percent higher for captains who fly in non-American Airlines group regional carriers. Piper plucks apprentices from high school
General aviation manufacturing giant Piper Aircraft made several hires after hosting high school students at its Vero Beach, Florida, headquarters. The company extended job offers to about 84 percent of the candidates. In early June, Piper said the new hires were in the training process and will join the manufacturing and control teams. FAA issues notam guidance
The FAA issued an advisory circular that contains guidance for airport operators on the function and purpose of notams to remove and avoid confusing, inaccurate, or expired reporting. The advisory circular includes a list of information that should not be included in notams, and it also provides guidance on using the notam system for airport condition reporting and procedures.
