King Schools now offers a complete Part 141 curriculum for flight schools and has added a new instrument instructor rating course to its Cessna Flight Training System, available to all flight schools. Foreflight acquires CloudAhoy
ForeFlight has acquired CloudAhoy and will integrate all of CloudAhoy's data management capabilities into the ForeFlight app. CloudAhoy provides postflight debriefing analytics for flight training, business, and military aviation. The program allows users to get an in-depth look at specific phases of flight, displaying bank angle, speed, altitude variations, and the flight path. READ MORE ›
Baker urges FAA amnesty for veterans
AOPA President Mark Baker urged acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen to adopt an amnesty-first approach to medical certificate application errors by veterans. This is an approach that the agency has used successfully in the past with similar systemic problems. An FAA investigation launched in 2022 has caught a growing number of U.S. military veterans in a bind, with enforcement action ramping up as the year ended. The issue stems from Section 18 of the medical certificate application, which asks military applicants to disclose whether they are receiving medical disability benefits. READ MORE ›
NTSB: Cirrus pilot erred before 2021 midair
The NTSB issued a final report on a May 2021 midair between a Cirrus SR22 and a Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner in Colorado, which found that the Cirrus pilot failed to maintain the final approach course for the assigned runway at Centennial Airport. The Cirrus touched down via its ballistic parachute, but there were no serious injuries. READ MORE ›
Blue Line Aviation orders 115 Piper Archers, Seminoles
Piper Aircraft and Blue Line Aviation signed an agreement March 28 at the Sun 'n Fun Aerospace Expo to replace the flight school's entire fleet with 115 single-engine Archer TXs and twin-engine Seminoles. Deliveries will begin in the second half of 2023. READ MORE ›
Tecnam announces flight school fleet orders
Tecnam announced April 1 that it has secured aircraft orders from two U.S. flight schools. Melbourne Flight Training in Melbourne, Florida, has ordered 20 Tecnam P-Mentors, eight P2010s, and three P2006Ts. A P2006T was delivered during Sun 'n Fun, with the remaining aircraft to be delivered in 2024. Also, HCH Aviation in Nacogdoches, Texas, ordered 15 P-Mentors for its training program with Stephen F. Austin State University.
