Light sport envelope expansion proposed |
The FAA released a long-awaited rulemaking proposal to do away with light sport aircraft weight limits and other restrictions on pilots who fly them, though sport pilots will still be limited to only one passenger at a time. The agency eliminated weight restrictions and applied limitations to performance-based criteria, such as stall speed and maximum speed.

Cirrus Aircraft to offer private pilot training |
Cirrus Aircraft announced July 25 a comprehensive private pilot training program using SR-series aircraft. The program uses Cirrus-designed ground school training and matches students with a Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot through a Cirrus Training Center. The Cirrus Private Pilot Program includes 11 modules and 40 lessons that include pre-study material, ground instruction lessons, flight instruction videos, performance assessments, and quizzes.

French connection: New trainer coming to U.S. market |
Elixir Aircraft, based in La Rochelle, France, is awaiting FAA Part 23 certification for its low-wing two-seat aircraft, but a Florida flight school has already put in an order for 10 of the airplanes. The airplanes are powered by Rotax 912iS or 915iS turbocharged engines.

Interior glow-up for Cessna single-engine lineup |
Textron Aviation announced big interior changes and new paint options coming to the company's Cessna Skyhawk, Skylane, Turbo Skylane, and Turbo Stationair HD models in 2024. Customers can expect improved seats with additional padding and support; a new center armrest for some models; power headset jacks; an updated instrument panel; and several brand-new modern paint schemes.
