Effective April 5, 2010, the FAA began considering individuals for special issuance medical certification who are being treated for depression with one of four specific antidepressant medications.

The FAA continues to maintain a conservative policy toward certifying individuals with a diagnosis of ADD. Medications are often a problem.

The FAA often requests a neuropsychological evaluation in cases involving head injuries, substance abuse, strokes, or other situations.

All records covering prior psychiatric hospitalizations and/or other periods of observation or treatment are required for review.
