Illinois legislative report calls Meigs 'valuable asset'

An Illinois House Aviation Committee report has endorsed the value of reliever airports like Chicago's Meigs Field. In a "Blueprint for Action: Creating a Regional Airport Network," the committee wrote, "The general aviation airports and smaller 'reliever' airports (designated to reduce the general aviation traffic at O'Hare and Midway) are valuable assets of the region. The role of airports such as Meigs, Palwaukee, Lansing, Schaumburg, Aurora, and Waukegan will be the subject of further study by the House Aviation Committee." The report was presented to the Illinois legislature May 29. Two weeks ago, AOPA aired a television commercial directed specifically to Illinois legislators. That commercial called Meigs Field "a valuable asset" and asked the question, "Isn't it worth saving?"
