The innovative online Aviation Digital Data Service (ADDS) weather system is now back online. The National Weather Service shut down the service yesterday, reportedly following pressure from commercial weather vendors. The experimental ADDS Web site provides weather products not available elsewhere, including graphical pireps, a flight planner that helps pilots visualize the location and altitudes of potential icing, and a graphical convective weather forecast. AOPA intervened with the FAA and NWS to get the service restored.
