AOPA Insurance Agency adds online quotes, policy binding

For the first time ever, aircraft owners, renters, and CFIs can obtain real-time aviation insurance quotes and bind policies online from the AOPA Insurance Agency. The new service was announced at AOPA Expo 2001 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The new AOPA Insurance Agency offering—the first such Web-based service in the United States—allows multiple quotes from "A"-rated underwriters to be retrieved within minutes and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After quotes are reviewed, an online application form allows coverage to be bound immediately. Existing customers can also review their own policy information.

"Comparing aviation insurance policies and premiums has always been a time-consuming chore," said Greg Sterling, executive vice president and general manager of the AOPA Insurance Agency. "With this new AOPA Insurance Agency online quote service, it's easy to make sure you're getting the policy best suited to your individual situation."

In addition to the new quote and binding features, the AOPA Insurance Agency Web site now includes reference articles on various insurance topics, as well as a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) to help AOPA members better understand the intricacies of aviation insurance. Among the questions answered by the new AOPA Insurance Agency site:

  • What is an "open pilot warranty?"
  • Why do prices vary so much between companies?
  • What are the differences between liability coverage "split limits," combined single limit or "smooth" coverage, and sub-limited coverages?
  • What can I do to reduce my insurance rates?

"With intelligent use of technology, the AOPA Insurance Agency is taking the mystery out of buying aviation insurance and putting you back in the pilot's seat," said Sterling. "The AOPA Insurance Agency treats customers like valued members, because they are members."

Sterling added that the online service is in addition to the personalized attention members expect from AOPA. Members can always get additional insurance advice and help by telephoning the insurance experts at the AOPA Insurance Agency.

The AOPA Insurance Agency is the largest general aviation insurance agency and is the only aircraft insurance agency backed by the 60-plus-year expertise of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. AOPA represents some 375,000 pilots, more than half of all pilots in the United States.
