AOPA pushes national security officials for decision on VFR operations

AOPA President Phil Boyer this morning continued a barrage of phone calls and messages to top national security officials to push for a return of VFR flight privileges. Those calls have included senior members of President Bush's personal staff and national security leaders in Congress.

Today Boyer called Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence, and an active pilot and AOPA member. Sen. Inhofe said he has been assured that there will be a decision very soon on VFR operations but that there may be some restrictions initially. Inhofe confirmed that it is the Department of Defense and other national security officials, not the FAA, that are holding up the return of VFR flight privileges.
