Don't cut aviation funding, AOPA tells Arizona governor

AOPA today told Arizona that proposed cuts in aviation funding could hurt the state's economy. AOPA President Phil Boyer wrote the new governor, Janet Napolitano, saying that aviation supports over 22,000 jobs and provides nearly $1.5 billion annually in economic impact to the state. Boyer's letter reminded the governor that many industrial and manufacturing firms, agricultural, mining, livestock businesses, and banks depend upon Arizona airports.

"Arizona's airports serve as on-ramps to the nation's air transportation system and must be funded at adequate levels to maintain aircraft safety and efficiency," said Boyer. AOPA Regional Representative Stacy Howard is working with key budget committee members in the state legislature to press for continued aviation funding to support the statewide airport system.
