AOPA's 2003 Centennial of Flight sweepstakes airplane is a 1940 Waco UPF-7. It has finished its painstaking restoration at Rare Aircraft in Owatonna, Minnesota, and is ready for the winner to take the joystick sometime in early 2004. See AOPA Online to read all about this airplane's history as a World War II trainer; read past reports as AOPA Pilot Senior Editor Al Marsh tracked and recorded the restoration process last year; and get a first-hand look at tailwheel training from AOPA President Phil Boyer. You'll also find links to a photo gallery and the official rules for entering the sweepstakes.
In addition to the Waco, AOPA is holding random drawings of monthly winners who get to spend a day flying a Waco. Each monthly winner comes home with some great memories, a leather bomber jacket, and a plaque commemorating the special day. Read about our winners to date on the Web site .
In recent years AOPA has given away a Beech V35 Bonanza, a Cessna U206, and a Mooney 201, to name a few. The Waco comes with a thorough checkout so that the winner will be ready to take to the skies.
If you join AOPA or renew your membership this year, you're automatically entered in the sweepstakes. Those who join AOPA and sign up for the automatic annual renewal program - or those who renew for 2003 - will be entered twice. (To join or renew online, go to www.aopa.org/join/). CFIs get an extra entry for every student they refer to AOPA. Don't miss your chance to own a piece of aviation history as the nation prepares to celebrate the centennial of flight.
