This morning at 8:46, AOPA staff joined with the nation's pilots and all citizens in a moment of silence to honor the innocent victims of the September 11 attacks two years ago, and the sacrifices of the many Americans who unselfishly leapt to the rescue that fateful day, and who continue fighting on the frontlines of the battle against terrorism.
"America's pilots will never forget what happened that day," said AOPA President Phil Boyer, "and we will continue our individual and collective efforts to block a terrorist from using general aviation against us.
"We will also continue our efforts to preserve the freedom of flight. Personal and business flying represent both the freedoms—and the responsibilities—Americans cherish and defend. We must protect our security but never at the expense of fundamental freedoms that are at the core of being an American."
