AOPA opposes increase in sales tax cap on aircraft

Several bills introduced in the South Carolina legislature would increase from $300 to $1,000 the maximum sales tax imposed for each aircraft sale or lease. In letters to the chairmen of the Senate Committee on Finance and the House Committee on Ways and Means, AOPA pointed out that such a move could have a negative effect on the economy by encouraging prospective buyers to go to neighboring states to make aircraft purchases. None of the bills has yet been scheduled for consideration.
