Airport status after Hurricane Katrina
Listed below is the best information available to AOPA on the status of airports impacted by Katrina, as provided by AOPA Airport Support Network volunteers, the Department of Homeland Security, and FAA headquarters.
Please note that because communications are spotty at best in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, this list is not necessarily complete. Airports not listed as "open" may or may not be fully operational. Do not rely on this information alone for flight planning.
Also, fuel availability is not guaranteed. You should call ahead to determine current fuel availability, or tanker enough fuel to reach an assured supply.
Widespread power outages remain, meaning that lights might not be available at some airports, and many obstructions and towers are without hazard lights. Some air traffic control frequencies may not be available.
Contact flight service (800/WX-BRIEF) or DUATS for the latest notams and other official flight planning information.
AOPA will update this list as information becomes available.
