Vote no on 'flawed' charter amendment, AOPA urges

In a full-page advertisement scheduled to run Saturday in a local edition of The Kansas City Star, AOPA is encouraging west-central Missouri voters to reject a change in the city code that would have a negative effect on Lee's Summit Municipal Airport. At issue is a charter amendment that would require any improvements or development at the Missouri airport be put to a vote before city residents. The amendment is so loosely worded that virtually any change at the airport would require a vote. "This is bad public policy and something AOPA has never seen in our history," said AOPA President Phil Boyer. "What's next? Voter approval to add swing sets to parks or change law enforcement uniforms?" Download the ad.
