AOPA to lobby against general aviation tax increases in Nebraska

AOPA Central Regional Representative Bill Hamilton is working with the Nebraska aviation community to oppose some changes to the Nebraska Revenue Act. The bill, LB 576, would make many changes to the state's sales and use taxes, and while there are some benefits for out-of-state aircraft, the bill would increase taxes on other segments of general aviation.

For aircraft owners, the bill would eliminate the current sales tax exemption on aviation fuel, increasing their operating costs. The bill would also increase costs for public airports by eliminating the sales tax exemption for government entities.

"These changes would be detrimental to general aviation in Nebraska, and AOPA will lobby hard to stop them," said Andy Cebula, AOPA senior vice president of Government and Technical Affairs.
